Rants of an Awkward Person #1

FINDING A JOB!!!!

For someone who avoids human contact whenever possible, hates physical labour and has no useful skills other than breathing, sleeping and Grammar Nazi-ing, finding a job is proving to be a challenge. I have a phobia of phone calls so the mere thought that I have to call up different people just to enquire about a job freaks me out. And what if they call me back for an interview and I suddenly forget how to English??? And what if I actually get the job, mess up and set the building on fire?????
My brain is wired in a way where I only consider the worst possible scenarios.

It's always good to have motivation in times like this and mine just happens to be SUMMER BREAK IN KOREA NEXT YEAR! So I'm in desperate need of a job. Fingers crossed that I will find one eventually.

Ok that's all kthxbai

First ever manicure pedicure & Dancing Elves

Red's my mum, glitter is Arveeta and mine's the blue.

Finally! After months of begging and pleading, my aunt got coupons for mani pedis from Groupon and called my mum, my sisters and I along. I'd never really seen the appeal of going for a manicure before because I always thought that the best thing about nail art was doing it by yourself. Nevertheless, I wanted to experience a real manicure pedicure done by professionals.

Stepped into the shop and noticed all the nail polishes on the shelves, the different brushes and the nail gems. This is what heaven looks like to nail addicts.

First of all, when the lady saw how long my nails were, she asked me if I wanted to trim it and I said yes assuming it would be just a little bit. But she cut ALL my nails off! I had such long nails before *sobs*. They shaped my nail pretty well though. Now they're all evenly squared. The lady who did my nails was pretty rough and while she was using that tool that cuts the skin around your nail to keep it smooth, she cut too deep and it started to bleed. BLEED. BLOOD COULD ACTUALLY BE SEEN. It stung so much when she was putting on the polish. I had to keep my poker face when in my head I was going "ASDFGHJKL OH LORD IT BURNSSSS."
Long story short, the sides of my nails are still sore but at least my nails look good. I'm not entirely sure if I'll go for more manicure pedicures in the future. For one thing, I'm still scarred by the lady digging a hole into my flesh. Another thing is I actually enjoy doing my nails by myself. I might go back to the store to nick some of their nail polishes. Maybe.

This blog post is a little different because it has a guest performance at the end of it. By dancing elves. Yay. Enjoy.

MTQ Finals

I apologise for this extremely late post because I just found out that the video of my finals were already up on Youtube. So here's my performance of Valerie by Amy Winehouse. Even though I didn't win (sob sob cry cry), it was so much fun to be on stage every week doing what I love.

Thanks a lot to those who did vote and my amazing friends who were so supportive. Check out the video of my "potential winning speech below".

Thanks everyone!

MTQ

Music Talent Quest 2013!

Finally got the balls courage to enter. I got through the quarter finals and semi finals. Waiting to see if I've made it to the finals. So far I'm pretty satisfied with my performances EXCEPT FOR THE BLOODY HIGH NOTES THAT I MESSED UP IN BOTH MY BLOODY SONGS. I ace the high notes every single time when I'm practising in my room by myself but whenever I sing live I tend to mess up all the high notes *frustration*.

Quarter Finals
You Lost Me- Christina Aguilera

Semi Finals
Mama Do- Pixie Lott

Huge shout out to Amanda whose been doing my hair for my performances and to Camen for lending me her clothes (fyi, none of my outfits are actually mine, they're a combination of Camandavina) gayyyyyyyy.

And not forgetting my Arts Foundation friends who have been my support "team". And my creeper Li Yan whose "Overly Attached Face" didn't make it on the official video but I had to include screenshots of her in this blog post. Just to show you how creepy she really is.

Love you all. Kthxbai.

What is Ash Wednesday?

Ash Wednesday is also known as the first day of the Lent season in the Christian calender. It signifies the beginning of a month of fasting and repentance as we prepare ourselves for Easter. In the Bible, it is said that Jesus spent 40 days fasting in the desert while enduring temptations from Satan. The Lent season can be seen as a re-enactment of that. As we fast for 40 days, we will have to endure the temptation that comes our way, just like Jesus did. It is also encouraged to sacrifice our Earthly pleasures and to do good to others in order to fully immerse ourselves in the Lent season.

On Ash Wednesday, our foreheads are marked with ashes to humble our hearts and reminds us that life passes away on Earth. Ashes are a symbol of penance made sacramental by the blessing of the Church, and they help us develop a spirit of humility and sacrifice

"Remember, Man is dust, and unto dust you shall return" - Genesis 3:19

So this Lent season, I shall be making my own list of things of what I should sacrifice for the Lent season. Things like less time on the computer watching Modern Family and The Big Bang Theory, or less time on Twitter spazzing about kpop related stuff, or giving up painting my nails for 40 days. *gulp*

I hope everyone has a fruitful and meaningful Lent season. God Bless!

Gold and Silver Half Moons

 Happy Ash Wednesday everyone!

I didn't have a specific idea for Ash Wednesday themed nails so I decided to go with simple half moons. It was my first time trying out the half moons design and I'm pretty satisfied with the result. I used gold and silver nail polish as the base and then stuck on the french tip guides at the bottom on my nail to make the shape of the half moon. Then I painted over it with the black nail polish. Really simple.

It's the first day of the Lent season so make it count everyone! Happy Ash Wednesday and God Bless! :)
