Addicted to The Big Bang Theory and Modern Family

Our whole universe was in a hot dense state, then nearly 14 billion years ago expansion started, wait...
the Earth began to cool, autotrophs began to drool,
Neanderthals developed tools, we built a wall
-we built the pyramids-
Math, Science, History,
unravelling the mysteries
that all started with the a big bang, BANG!

*inserts jazzy Modern Family theme music*

Korean dramas are completely different from American series. The story lines are cliché, the characters cry too much and there's only ONE PATHETIC KISS SCENE IN THE ENTIRE DRAMA. However, I end up enduring the entire drama for the smoking hot lead actors most of the time. (with the exception of Reply 1997 which is the best korean drama out there right now!!!)
I decided to take a break from my regular korean dramas and decided to try out series in my first language. So after I got my friend to teach me how to download torrents (technology confuses me), I downloaded the first two seasons of the Big Bang Theory and Modern Family and I've been hooked ever since.

The Big Bang Theory

What makes this series so great? Besides the fact that there's an Indian guy in it (I'm not racist). The series revolves around 4 nerds and their hot neighbour. Half the time I don't even get the jokes as they're science jokes most of the time. This is where I rely on the laughing audience to even realise it's a joke. Maybe it's the characters that make the show so great.

First, there's Penny who lives opposite Leonard and Sheldon. She's the only female in the cast. Next, there's Leonard Hofstadter (I had to Google his last name) who's in love with Penny. He's basically the nice guy who always finishes last. Then there's Howard Wolowitz, who's a Jew and a pervert and he lives with his mother (he reminds me of a member of the Beetles. It must be the hair). Then there's the indian dude, Rajesh Koothrappali. He can't speak to women at all unless he's drunk. Last but not least there's Sheldon Cooper who's possibly the smartest person of our generation, having gotten his Ph.D at the age of 16. He lives in the same apartment as Leonard. Sheldon is very egotistical, and he often brags about his smarts, although he lacks social skills. I personally found him extremely annoying in the first season but I guess his character is what gives the show it's charm. Watch the show and see for yourself.

Modern Family

This show is about three different families and their lives. These families always come together through some event every episode. I think it's necessary to explain how these families are related.

So, Jay gets remarried to Gloria who already has a son of her own named Manny from a previous marriage. So Jay, Gloria and Manny are the first family. Jay has two children of his own, Claire and Mitchell. Mitchell is gay and lives with his boyfriend Cameron. They adopted a Vietnamese baby and named her Lily thus making Mitchell, Cameron and Lily the second family. Jay's daughter Claire is married to Phil and they have three children together, Haley, Alex and Luke. They're the third family.

There's way too many things that makes the show great that it's impossible to list them all down. Go and watch it, that's all I have to say.

So these are the series I'm currently blowing my two week term break on. If you have any other great series that you think I should watch, let me know.
